'find something you love doing', 'do something you are passionate about', 'if you love what you do...' and the list goes on..
How many times have you heard a similar saying and thought to yourself 'Iwish!'?! Well I have too which is how this blog has come about.
A few months ago I decided that I was not happy with the prospects of spending the rest of my life making some pointless calculations that not many, if any, people actually care about... whilst spending the best years of my life in a grey office dressed in a lovely grey suit. So I have decided that I will pursue one thing that I find hugely exciting - fashion.
I am your normal typical 25 year old college graduate with a ‘solid’ corporate job. Currently living in London. I do not know anyone in fashion. At all. Not even remotely. My circle consists of engineers, stockbrokers, lawyers, may be a few accountants and other very serious grown up individuals holding very serious grown up professions.
As I embarked on my quest to conquer the fashion industry (which is currently still in process - watch this space), I realised how little resources there were for people who are looking for an entry point into the industry. I mean it is great to know that you love fashion but how do you decide what it is that you want to do in fashion? where do you start? who do you speak to? how much will you be paid? what degree do you need?
All these questions were perpetually bugging my brain and I have spent a lot of hours looking, researching, reading, talking and applying.
So after many weeks of researching, networking and writing applications I finally managed to get two offers of internship with two pretty big names (unfortunately I had to pick only one as they were running concurrently.. but that's a whole different story).

So because I am a nice person and I strongly believe in the 'sharing is caring' principle, I thought I would share with you my findings and experiences as I go along. What you need to understand is that this blog is firstly - a work in progress, and secondly it is not a 'bitching space' about how painful and difficult the industry is. This blog is about practical tips for people who are looking to start a career in fashion... more specifically - the fashion interns. I would also like to point out that at this point the blog does not cover the creative side of the fashion industry as that is completely outside of my realms of competence, so the focus will be more on the business side of fashion - sales, marketing, PR, merchandising, buying, finance, strategy.
I will also be sharing with you my opinions on books and articles that I find intersting and useful on the subject so if you have a book or a publication that you believe should be mentioned on here please drop me a line and I will review/read/analyse it and share my thoughts.
If you would like to contribute to the blog or have questions about anything that you read here feel free to drop me a line! I will be glad to hear from you!
Yours Truly,
Made in Fashion
